Impact statement:

Starting 16:27 UTC on 27 March Month 2026, a subset of customers using Azure Virtual Machines and Azure SQL Database in the West US region may experience

connectivity failures and degraded availability. Affected customers may observe Virtual Machines becoming unresponsive or failing to start, and SQL Database connections timing out or returning intermittent errors.

Current Status: We have identified a networking infrastructure issue within the West US region that is impacting connectivity to Virtual Machines and SQL Database resources. Our engineering teams are actively engaged and have isolated the fault to a subset of network devices serving this region. Targeted mitigation actions are underway to restore full connectivity. We expect to have an initial mitigation in place within the next 2 hours, though full recovery may take longer as we validate service health across all affected resources.

Customer Guidance: Customers with business-critical workloads in West US are advised to consider failing over to a secondary region if disaster recovery configurations are in place. No manual intervention is required for recovery — affected resources are expected to restore automatically once mitigation is complete. If you are experiencing sustained impact and require immediate assistance, please open a support request referencing this incident.
